United States Probes Massacres of Armenians

Secretary Lansing announced today that he had authorized the American embassy at Constantinople to call attention to the massacre of Armenians. The dispatch was one of a series sent to the embassy on the subject and was of an unofficial character, the position being taken that the United States could not take official action in a matter involving the treatment of another government of its own nationals and could only take cognizance of the situation on the grounds of justice and humanity.
