Turks Deny Rumors of Armenian Massacres

Armenian Population Alarmed at Reports of New Movements Against Them

CONSTANTINOPLE, Tuesday March 2- Since the Marash massacre became public there have been daily rumors of a movement against the Armenians elsewhere to the great alarm of the Armenian population. The Turkish foreign office today issued a communication saying:

‘Lately rumors have been printed in the Armenian journals concerning Armenian massacres in Anatolia. It is officially declared that, excepting for clashes and brawls in the region of Marash between the Turks and Armenians, which were caused by acts of violence and a massacre against Mussulmans, no movement has been made against the Armenians in any part of Anatolia.’

These reports have been spread for the purpose of prejudicing European public opinion and the peace conference against Turkey at a time when its destiny is being discussed.
